Our History

A long family tradition, from 1954 as “Baita da Francesco” and from 1982 as Principe di Metternich.

Principe di Metternich restaurant is set between the sky and the sea in the charming port of Grignano, beside the entrance to Miramare Castle Park. It is just 50 metres from the Immaginario Scientifico, the University of Trieste Department of Physics, the ICTP Adriatic Guest House, Galileo Guest House and Enrico Fermi Building, with links to the centre of Trieste by the no. 6 bus and by ferry during the summer.

White Room Restaurant

The White Room features wood-burning fireplaces, large windows with a breathtaking view and panoramic terraces overlooking the sea. A real must, not only in summertime, as you can eat outside almost the whole year round, thanks to its privileged sheltered position, with the added benefit of awnings and heaters. You can choose from the daily specials, traditional fish dishes and the traditional local dishes of Trieste.

Our traditional cuisine, with flavours of the sea around Trieste as well as our land, offers aromas, flavours, traditions and creativity in harmony with the seasons. Lactose-free and vegetarian dishes.

Green Room Lounge Bar

The Green Room has a lounge bar for a cocktail, a pause between appetizers or a Trieste ‘rebecchin’ as a starter. These range from breaded pilchards, buttered salted cod or marinated anchovies to Trieste-style canapés with warm cooked ham, mustard and horseradish or canapés with mortadella, to be enjoyed with the local wines, Triestine Spritz, beer or the classic Italian non-alcoholic aperitif Gingerino. You could also try a gelato or fresh fruit shake or choose a convenient snack or quick lunch.

Events, Offers and special Deals

You can find various proposals for business lunches and suppers, fixed menus for organised tours and birthday, anniversary or graduation celebrations, with buffets or refreshments arranged specially for you.

Menus for ceremonial occasions, first communions and confirmations, weddings or any other important event.
